Sam and Ben

The adventures of Sam,
Ben, Hazel and Tina

I have four training dolls that have been instrumental in my training sessions.
Sam, my original training doll, has been a constant companion and has supported me for many years while I delivered Moving and Handling Training, Wheelchair and Occupant Restraint Training and Crelling Harness Training. He has also had many adventures of his own over the years.
Ben, who looks similar to Sam but is slightly taller, joined the team next. He loves to encourage Sam to misbehave.
Hazel is our smallest and most weighted doll. She has brown hair and is quite relaxed and happy.
Finally, Tina joined us, and she is beginning to learn about life as a training doll.
Together, they form a complete team. My training dolls have not only helped me deliver courses but also provided an opportunity to showcase their adventures through pictures. They have quite a portfolio; below are just a few examples. When I work with young people, they especially enjoy flicking through them, which has often been a way to get them to relax.

Sam and Ben are two training dolls sitting in chairs. It is time for the appraisal review, and Ben is delivering some training tips to Sam, who wants to sit and eat lunch.

Sam should listen to Ben as they review the day’s training plan. However, Sam has been distracted by looking at pictures of their adventures.

The staff on the course thought it would be a good idea for Ben to try a coffee.

Sam had a busy day and needed a drink. The staff on the course thought it would be a good idea for Sam to try a fizzy drink.

Sam and Ben are deciding what to have for lunch. They have a very busy day ahead.

Ben likes to check that the people on the courses are completing the games properly.

Sam and Ben enjoyed a novel way to travel to work. Instead of going a short distance by car, they travelled by trolley, much to some amusing glancings from the Salisbury commuters.

After a long day helping deliver a training course, Sam and Ben have time to watch some television.

Sam loves helping with the games when we deliver a Moving and Handling course. Especially when there is a chance he may get dirty; he is trying to squeeze the toothpaste under guidance from a staff member from The Exeter House School in Salisbury.

Ben loves helping with the games when we deliver a Moving and Handling course. Ben is checking staff members’ answers after they have completed a game. The staff are from Exeter House School in Salisbury.

Sam and Ben had spent the day helping me deliver a Moving and Handling course. They wanted to cool down and went to find the school’s swimming pool. , I had to discourage them from getting in fully as they may have shrunk and taken ages to dry out.

Sam and Ben helped me deliver six courses, and I told them their clothes would go in the wash. They decided to climb in the laundry basket for fun and games.

Sam is a Moving and Handling training doll; he is pictured sitting at the breakfast table trying to decide what he could choose as a topping for his toast. In front of him is his plate with a slice of toast and a knife with a small amount of spreadable butter. To the side of the plate is a banana, not peeled, sitting on top of a cereal bowl. In front of his plate is a jar of peanut spread, chocolate spread and veggie spread. There is also a cup of water next to him. Sama has a thoughtful expression on his face.

When the house is quiet, I wonder what the team are up to. Today was a pleasant surprise, two boys reading.

Ben and Tina had a lovely day out at Sussex Back Exchange Paediatric Moving and Handling; as you can see, they were exhausted and needed a lie-down.

This chair was lovely, but I won’t get to sit in it if I take it home. A few others will permanently occupy it.

If Sam and been a little patient, he could have tried the seat sling. Instead, Ben got there first.

Sometimes Sam is impatient and doesn’t like to wait when trying new things. Oh, dear!

Time for a movement break. Changing your posture is important if you have been sitting for a long time.

When Ben play bingo unlike Sam he like to read everything.

Sam loved playing bingo. He is known to cheat and put the counters anywhere.

A day out for 3 today at Exeter house school.

It was Bens turn for a day out at Kidz south and he loved all the attention

We would have preferred a climbing frame, but these walkers were at the school entrance, and we could not help ourselves. We wanted to try them. Hazel is too small for them.

With three training dolls, two hula hoops, and a camper van, we are off to spend a week working away from home; I wonder what we will get up to.

Ben was determined to help the staff complete their game

Sam really would like a step to help him see over the table, but his friends seem very busy completing their quizzes.

Tina is helping staff to complete a quiz.

Four training dolls and one refresher course. The team got impatient waiting for the school’s doors to open and soon found a bike stand to play on.

Getting ready for the day ahead, it wasn’t quite in the car today, the team were discussing what they wanted to do, and I forgot my earplugs.

Tina, our newest training doll, has been shopping for clothes. It has been great fun talking my training dolls out shopping as we cannot help but get strange looks from passers-by shop assistants have been very helpful in finding clothes for us.

Ben got cold and wet today while helping me deliver training to Berkshire College of Agriculture staff. He needed lots of cuddles when we got home and an apology from me as I had forgotten some waterproof trousers.

Sam was hungry, and nothing would distract him from his chosen plate of food, not even having his picture taken.

The staff at Hawkedon School were not happy with Ben’s choice. After eating lots of sweets, he decided to eat the biscuit.

Ben, think about what you have eaten tonight; you already had so many sweets. The staff at Hawkedon School are trying to discourage Ben from eating more sweet things.

Now Ben, do you need to eat this biscuit? You have had lots of sweets already, how about some fruit?

Sam and Ben have arrived at Hawkedon School to help me deliver a training course. They were waiting for their visitor’s pass.

Now I have a team of three helpers, does that man I will need a bigger car?

We had great fun shopping, and the lady in the shop was amazing. It is thanks to her that we found these clothes. Two outfits, including a raincoat. Hazel looks lovely, snug and warm.

Hazels first trip out in a borrowed raincoat and t-shirt. We were off to go and buy her some clothes.

We have called our new arrival Hazel. After much deliberation. It is now time for use to go shopping and find her some clothes. Hazel has borrowed a t shirt from Stuart to stay warm.

I wonder what’s in the box or who? Sam and Ben have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new friend.

Watching videos can be fun.

Do we get popcorn when we watch a video?

Five minutes peace before the afternoon course begins.

We love these hats can we keep them on. We used these witches’ hat on a course today. Sam and Ben are reluctant to part with them.

Sam and Ben love helping with the games; today, they were at Pinecroft  Short Breaks Service (Brighter Futures for Children),  a short breaks respite centre in Reading.
