With my extensive experience, I collaborate with staff and professionals involved with the young person to develop tailored moving and handling plans. I always strive to balance the young person’s
therapeutic progress, independence, and safety for everyone. I bring 20 years of experience working with children and young people aged 3 to 19 with various disabilities and twelve years as a Moving and Handling Trainer. 

Consultancy Examples: 

• Advisor: Guide clinical and non-clinical staff on specific moving and handling issues. 
• Training: Assist and train staff in creating moving and handling risk assessments for young people. 
• Evaluation: Review and provide feedback on existing risk assessments, moving and handling plans, and making necessary adaptations. 
• Planning: Develop detailed moving and handling plans for individuals with complex needs and make recommendations to minimise risks. Collaborate with physiotherapists and other relevant professionals as needed. 
• Support: Work with staff to ensure they are confident and competent in their practice. 

I am dedicated to creating an optimal learning environment where pupils can thrive and become independent learners. Equally important is ensuring staff have the right environment, equipment, and safe work systems to protect themselves and the young people they support.

Every school needs an Accessibility Plan with a scheduled review date. I can assess your school’s environment for staff involved in moving and handling tasks and supporting pupils with permanent or temporary physical disabilities during their daily transfers. Based on my findings, I will provide a comprehensive report. Often, existing Accessibility reports do not fully cover “Moving and Handling” aspects.

I have guided, advised, and educated managers on urgent actions, offering multiple options for the governing body to consider as part of school improvement. Whether dealing with old or new buildings, I understand the challenges that adaptations can present. My hands-on experience in supporting pupils daily allows me to empathize with the issues staff might face.
