About Me

My name is Tania Hemstock. For 22 years, until October 2021, I worked at Addington School in Woodley, Reading, Berkshire. Addington School is an ‘outstanding’ special school for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Over the years, I have held various roles at the school.

My last role was as a Moving and Handling Training Advisor, which I held for 12 years. My first Moving and Handling qualification came from attending a course with Centaur Training and Development Ltd (Durham), “Handling People with Special Educational Needs (Education).”

I would also train the staff on correctly using wheelchairs and passenger occupant restraint systems on minibuses. Braunability trained me I have underpinned this qualification by becoming a PATS trainer. https://ctauk.org/training/pats/

I love being outdoors, walking, exploring, and spending time in the countryside, hills, and mountains of the United Kingdom.

Let’s Work Together. Let’s Get It Right.

My Courses

Guide, Advise, and Educate

I am passionate about delivering engaging courses with the right content. My courses are not just dry PowerPoint presentations; they include games, discussions, and fun activities. Many staff members have told me they took away valuable lessons from these courses and positively changed their lives.

For me, the goal is to guide, advise, and educate. I worked collaboratively with staff, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists to create Moving and Handling plans for children and young people, improving safety and creating a better working environment for everyone.

Going Solo

Local physiotherapists and occupational therapists have highlighted a lack of specialised training and support for managing moving and handling paperwork for children and young people with temporary or permanent physical disabilities. Recognising this need, I decided to establish a business offering these services to organisations working with children and young people, including those with special educational needs (SEND) or complex handling needs.

My hands-on experience with children and young people allows me to relate to professionals’ challenges. By working with staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and children/young people, I can guide, advise, educate, and help the team adopt better working practices.

My Qualifications

I have consistently sought to enhance my knowledge and skills throughout my career. I am passionate about professional development and have earned several more qualifications, including:

  • Centaur Training and Development Ltd (Durham) Handling People with Special Educational Needs.
  • RoSPA Level 4 Award in Manual Handling Train the Trainer and Risk Assessment in People Handling.
  • RoSPA Level 4 Advanced Award in Managing Diverse and Complex Manual Handling Situations

These achievements reflect my commitment to continuous learning and excellence in my field.
